How we work

Three rules cover most of it.

We look before we quote. Every estimate is done from a ladder, with a screwdriver in the fascia and a walk to where each downspout drains. The price you get is the price you pay unless we find rot we could not have seen, and then you see it before we touch it.

We size for Tampa. Inch-an-hour storms from June through September, and wind on the end of it. That means 3x4 downspouts as standard, 6-inch gutters where the roof plane calls for them, stainless hardware near the water, and extensions on every downspout, because sand washes out from under a slab faster than most people think.

We tell you when you do not need us. If a $180 reseal fixes it, that is what you get. If the gutters have five good years left, we say so.

• A water test before they leave.

Licensing and insurance in Florida

Florida licenses contractors at the state level through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. When gutter installation is done under a building permit, the contractor pulling that permit has to hold a state contractor license: either a specialty contractor license that covers this work or a general, building or residential contractor license. Whether a particular job needs a permit is decided by the local building department (City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the Pinellas and Pasco municipalities), and a small repair or a like-for-like replacement often does not. We carry the license for permitted work and general liability and workers' compensation insurance, and we will send the details before anyone climbs a ladder. Ask any contractor for the same, and check the license on the DBPR license search rather than taking a number on a business card at face value. Unlicensed contracting is a real problem in Florida after storms, and the state says so plainly.

What we do not do

We do not do roofing, pool cages, stucco or foundation work. When we see a roof problem from the ladder we will say so and you can take it to a roofer. We do not sell guards to people whose trees do not justify them, and we do not take a deposit on repairs.
